Crappie Fishing

Experience the evolution of crappie fishing with the revolutionary technology from Garmin. Say goodbye to traditional methods as Livescope, often dubbed "video game fishing" by kids, brings real-time forward-looking radar to your fishing endeavors. Witness the underwater world, strategically place your bait, and observe the excitement as fish strike or gracefully swim away. During the spawning season from mid to late April, the action intensifies in extreme shallows. Engage in fast and furious fishing using minnows and jig with corks set at 18 inches deep. Male crappie, dark in color and aggressive during spawn, add to the thrill. Livescope not only enhances the experience but also allows targeting trophy-sized crappie. Guided by catch-and-release practices for anything over 2lbs, this ensures sustainable fishing. Venture to lakes with large crappie, accepting the trade-off of fewer catches for the chance of reeling in substantial trophy fish. Ideal for smaller groups, trophy trips are recommended from October to February for optimal results.

Catfish Fishing

Explore the abundance of blue catfish in Oologah Lake, my primary catfishing haven. While occasionally venturing to Lake Keystone or Ft. Gibson for cats, Oologah Lake remains my home base for targeting sizable blues. Winter proves particularly fruitful for trophy-sized catches, though blues can be reeled in throughout the year. Navigating their movements requires adaptability, often involving multiple sets to pinpoint their location. Referring to fish under 30 inches as "Box Fish" due to their placement in the live well, Oklahoma's daily limit is 15, with only one exceeding 30 inches. Reservoirs also host flathead and channel catfish, with flatheads favoring live bait and channels displaying diverse culinary preferences. Typically, both flatheads and channels are released, as blues are considered superior in taste. In a conservation-minded shift, I now release all the big ones. Recognizing the potential impact on the lake's trophy population, especially among guides, preserving the wisdom of older fish becomes paramount. By releasing these seasoned individuals, they can continue safeguarding nests and contribute to a sustainable fishing environment.

TUNA FISHING in New York

Tuna fishing off New York's shores is an invigorating adventure in the vast Atlantic Ocean. Your day starts early, with the city skyline as a dramatic backdrop. Boarding a well-equipped charter boat, you venture into the deep blue, leaving the city's hustle and bustle behind. Trolling is the preferred method, lines trailing as you cruise, with top-notch technology aiding in locating tuna schools. The excitement peaks when a mighty Atlantic bluefin tuna takes the bait, leading to an intense battle of strength and speed. These giants are known for their challenge, making the catch incredibly rewarding. Amid the action, take in the coastal beauty and keep an eye out for marine wildlife like dolphins and whales. Guided by an experienced crew, you'll navigate the ups and downs of reeling in your prized catch. Depending on regulations and your preference, you can either release the tuna or savor it in a delicious seafood meal. As the day concludes, return to the marina, tired but exhilarated, with your catch expertly prepared for your enjoyment.

Hybrids, Sandbass

Hybrids, Sandbass, and Stripers provide an exhilarating fishing experience. While pursuing Walleye, we often encounter these species, although I tend to steer clear of them during dedicated Walleye missions. As evening descends, they emerge to the surface, aggressively targeting shad. Their technique involves thrashing the shad with sharp gills before descending to pick up the wounded ones. The advent of sidescan and livescope technology has simplified the task of locating schools midday. Utilizing a spoon, we can effectively jig up and down to entice bites. Live shad proves to be a successful bait choice, particularly on Skiatook and Keystone lakes. The integration of this new technology has heightened my anticipation for chasing these species this year. Skiatook lake imposes a limit of 5 Hybrids, with only 2 allowed to exceed 20 inches, and an unlimited allowance for Sandbass. Stripers are scarce in Skiatook. Conversely, Keystone lake permits 5 Stripers, 20 Hybrids (5 of which can exceed 20 inches), and unlimited Sandbass. My boat limit stands at an exciting 50 fish per trip.

Spoonbill / Paddlefish Fishing Trip

Spoonbill or Paddlefish are a very unique fish species. They don't strike or feed like most other fish. They open their large mouths up and let micro-plankton sift through their mouths. That's what they eat. The way we catch them is by dragging a large barbless treble hook over them and snagging them. This sounds illegal or bad, but it's the only way to catch them. Plan on catching 10 or more on average. Forty to ninety pounds is the norm. We fish out of a 24ft SeaArk Procat with state of the art electronics and equipment. The limit to keep is one. You can catch and release all you want. You will need a Oklahoma fishing license along with a free paddlefish permit. Trips start at 7am -1pm or 2pm - dark.
